Gordon Hartman To Build an Ultra-Accommodating Hotel for People with Disabilities: By Jason Hahr
Above is an image of a man wearing a lavender shirt standing on stage with a group of people. He is speaking into a microphone.
I have been giving a voice to the “Voiceless Minority” for
over 12 years. I have been blessed by both my loyal readers and by my amazing
colleagues and friends. I have been able to use this platform not only to
document my advocacy journey, but I have also been able to highlight fellow
disability champions. Today, I would like to highlight 1 of those fellow
champions.
Gordon Hartman of Texas is a former home builder in San
Antonio, Texas, who has a daughter with multiple disabilities. In 2010, he
founded Morgan’s Wonderland, the first fully inclusive amusement park in the
United States. I hope to visit the park sometime next year, not just as a
journalist, but as a fellow member of the Voiceless Minority.
The park is only one part of Morgan Enterprises. Since it
opened in 2010, the organization has added a camp and other offerings. You may
be asking yourself, Why is this news in 2025? The answer is quite simple. The
next chapter in Morgan Enterprises is here.
Morgan’s Hotel is slated to open in the fall of 2026. The Hotel
is being touted as an ultra-accommodating one, according to a Disability Scoop
article, which I will link at the bottom of this post. For those who have not
used their two free views a month on the Disability Scoop website, I would
recommend using one for this article. If you are unable to view it without
signing up, please note that the article provides detailed information about
some possible accommodations that will be available at the Hotel upon its
opening, including wider hallways and voice-controlled devices such as lights.
Rather than rehashing the entire article, I thought it would be more effective
to write this post as a preview.
Eventually, I plan on
reaching out to Mr. Hartman to see if The Voiceless Minority might be able to
do a story on the Hotel’s opening, as well as knock out a visit to Morgan’s
Wonderland at the same time. Who knows, with the constant momentum the
Voiceless Minority is gathering both as a blog and as a movement, an exclusive
look at the Hotel might not be out of reach.
Wish us luck. Cross your gimpy fingers and toes that we can
get our wheels in the door. Until next time, your friendly neighborhood, super
advocate and travel enthusiast, Jay.
