The Voiceless Minority

This post comes with a note to readers. This may or may not make complete sense. This post comes from a perspective of being stuck in my head. As much as I use this blog to teach and inform, this time, I am using it as a therapy tool as well. When I ask you, the readers, a question, please know that I am questioning you and my own subconscious. Now that I have said all of that, here we go. Initially, I was going to write a post about a movie I recently saw called “Conclave.” On the surface, the film has nothing to do with disability or disability-related issues. This year will mark the 25 th  anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. It was signed in July 1990. As a part of that Act, titles II, and III specified building accessibility requirements. The latest notifications for those requirements came in 2010. A small excerpt for those requirements is as follows:  Each facility or part of a facility constructed by, on behalf of, or for the use of a public entity should be designed and built in such manner that the facility or part of the facility is readily accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities if the construction was commenced after January 26, 1992.  Each facility or part of a facility altered by, on behalf of, or for the use of a public entity in a manner that affects or could affect the usability of the facility or part of the facility shall, to the maximum extent feasible, be altered in such way that the modified portion of the facility is readily accessible to and usable by individuals with d...

Today I was looking to expand the blog’s reach. To do so, I  I was trying to find an old video I posted on Facebook about Autism. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find it; however, I did stumble upon Carly. Carly is a girl with Autism. She inspired me to research the disorder more accurately, should I say the spectrum of disorders. I have friends with Aspergers, a high functioning form of Autism, but like many others, I had preconceived notions about Autism before begetting my research.
