Exceptional and Exciting Traveling Opportunities are Now Available to The Disability Community.
I am not a homebody. I love to get out and explore the
world, but it is a disability. You must
consider accessible travel, i.e., how you'll get where you're going and what it
will look like when you get there, especially if traveling internationally.
However, I recently came across a game-changer for traveling with a disability.
According to Rebecca
Hisamoto, the director of Exceptional Vacations, " Jill and Justin
ultimately understood the mental health benefits of being able to travel but
saw that there were not many opportunities out there for individuals with
intellectual and developmental disabilities to travel independently from their
families or agencies, so they started Exceptional Vacations.”
As I stated at the piece's beginning, I have been a traveler
since I popped out of the womb three months early. I was ready to see
what the world offered. Those who know me well know I will be turning 40 in a
little under two years. For years, I have wanted to go to Switzerland to visit
my dear friend and uncle, Tom. I was only sure it would be possible once I
found this company. But I should’ve known that my nana and pop-pop, who left
this world too early, were always right when they said, “You can do anything as
long as you put your mind to it.”
It is through companies like Exceptional Services that
people with disabilities will stop being defined by their disabilities and instead
by the life they live. Just because someone is born with a visible or invisible
difference does not make them less of a person. Everybody deserves to see this
beautiful yet messed-up world we live in. I cannot wait to continue my travels
and bring the world to you, my readers, one destination at a time.

Jay, thanks for the great article and sharing this is this is great news for anybody that’s looking to travel with a disability and as always what you write a great article thank you. Love you.
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting on the Blog; may I ask your name ? It does not say who wrote this beautiful comment. I'm only doing my best as a journalist and disability advocate to enhance the voice of the Voiceless. That being said even "The Voiceless Minority" has to relax once in a while, so I figured why not throw in some cool information about relaxing. Indeed, I did not just write a post about the organization for content -sake . I'm already looking into booking an anniversary trip for Sam and myself to St. Augustine.
DeleteJay, another great article and great information. Thanks for getting it together and Sharon you are a great writer and a a asset to your trade. Continue to share the information that we all need. Thank you. Love you
